The Music Ministry at Oakland Presbyterian Church is designed to build and sustain diversity, creativity, sensitivity, joy, and consecration of heart in the endeavor to glorify God. A variety of programs are available for all ages. Everyone is invited to join the the music programs offered. A brief description of the music groups is provided below, along with rehearsal times. On occasion, these groups perform at other services, concerts, or special meetings.
For all ages above the youth program, the adult choir enjoys singing a wide range of church music styles from sixteenth century Renaissance to folk tunes and spirituals to contemporary compositions. The provide inspiring music during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service. Rehearsals are Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the choir room.
The praise team sings every Sunday at the 8:45 a.m. worship service. The praise team includes vocal members, guitar, drums, and keyboard. The praise team rehearses on Sunday mornings at 7:45am in the sanctuary.
Our children’s choirs gather on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Activities are available for potty trained preschoolers through fifth graders. At 5:30 we gather to “break bread” in the Christian Life Center. For only $2 our volunteer families provide nutritious meals for the children, youth, and adult workers participating in the Wednesday choirs. The children are then separated, according to age, to attended various classes such as vocal choir, Bible study, chimes, piano, puppet drama, and dance movement.

The handbell choir plays, as scheduled, for the Sunday worships services and other occasions. No prior experience is necessary to join. Rehearsals are Tuesday evening at 5:15 p.m. in the sanctuary.
The brass ensemble plays special music, and enhances the worship experience as they accompany the singing of hymns during the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service. The brass ensemble rehearses at 7:00pm on Thursdays in the choir room and during the Sunday school hour on the day they participate in worship.
The string ensemble plays music before and during the 11 a.m. worship service, as scheduled. The ensemble currently consists of piano, violins, viola and cello. The ensemble rehearses on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in the choir room.
