Funerals & Memorial Services

“… do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

– 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Oakland Presbyterian Church offers a ministry of love and hope to all who grieve. Presbyterians believe that in the face of death, Christians affirm with tears and joy the hope of the gospel. We do not bear bereavement in isolation, but are sustained by the power of the Spirit and the community of faith.

The Sanctuary of our church is available at no cost for funerals or memorial services for church members. The pastor, ushers, and staff organist do not expect an honorarium of fee. The church will also produce a service bulletin at no charge. These are gifts of service to the family from the church.

If you need to organize a funeral or memorial service, please contact the church to schedule a meeting with our Pastor. At that time, planning and details for the service can be decided. 407-656-4452

OPC Memorial Garden

We believe that the consecration of our remains in Christian burial is the symbol of a whole life in the Church and in Jesus Christ. To that end, Oakland Presbyterian Church built a memorial garden for cremated remains as a proclamation of our faith in the resurrection of the dead. The Garden is also a place of meditation, rest, and prayer. Decisions for and maintenance of our Memorial Garden are made by a Committee.

Persons eligible for burial in the Garden are any member or former member of OPC and their immediate family (father, mother, husband, wife, and children.) Church members can petition Session for approval of persons other than immediate family.

The cost for the burial site is $500, which includes a container for the cremated remains provided by the church, and for perpetual care of the burial site. All other funeral expenses and the cost of cremation are the responsibility of the family of the deceased.
