Getting married is one of life’s most important milestones. Your wedding, the door by which you as acouple enter into a meaningful, life-long relationship, should be one of the most sacred and happiest moments in your life. Oakland Presbyterian Church is a beautiful setting for a wedding. Our staff is prepared to help you plan your wedding if you desire a church setting.
Our Wedding Coordinator will partner with you to understand how you envision this special day. Once a date and time is agreed upon, then the work really begins, with minister arrangements, premarital counseling, choice of facilities, music selection, rehearsal, flowers and decorations, the reception, photography, and more. Conversations and planning should begin early, so contact the church as soon as possible to make arrangements for your wedding.
The church is available to members and non-members on a first come, first serve basis. For non-members there is a $2000 fee that includes use of the sanctuary, Christian Life Center (if desired for the reception), organist, and the pastor’s services for counseling, rehearsal, and the wedding. A deposit of $200 is required to hold your date, and the remainder of the fee is due two weeks before the wedding. The Christian Life Center, which seats 300 at banquet tables, is available for wedding receptions. The CLC has a variety of lighting options, a professional sound system, a full size commercial kitchen, and other amenities. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on church premises.
The pastor normally presides at all weddings held on site. However, if you have another pastor you would like to involve in the service, our pastor is willing to invite other clergy to share the service or officiate in his absence. Couples are required to attend three counseling sessions with our pastor before the wedding. Divorced persons who wish to remarry are welcome to consult with our pastor. If the pastor feels, in good conscience, that the parties are presently suited for marriage, then there is no obstacle to getting married at our church.
Music for weddings held at Oakland Presbyterian Church will be approved by the minister in consultation with the director of music and organist. Music for the ceremony is to be sacred in nature, and may include the singing of hymns. Show tunes and other secular music should be reserved for the reception. Our organist will ordinarily play at all weddings in our church unless they are unavailable, in which case we will work with you to find another musician. Any outside musicians must be approved by the pastor.
May you experience God’s blessing at this exciting time in your lives.
